2010 National Legislative Conference: Michelle Obama to Speak at Legislative Conference

National PTA® is pleased to announce Michelle Obama, First Lady of the United States, will be the keynote speaker at PTA’s Legislative Conference. Her keynote address will be Wednesday, March 10, 12:30 – 2:15 p.m. EST.

The First Lady is slated to speak about her national campaign “Let’s Move”—a movement pertinent to the National PTA’s efforts toward fighting childhood obesity and promoting healthy lifestyles. Her address is part of PTA’s National Legislative Conference taking place March 9-11 in Arlington, VA.

Following the First Lady’s remarks, a panel of nationally recognized leaders in the common core state standards initiative will discuss the initiative. The panel will include:

Thelma Melendez de Santa Ana, Assistant Secretary for Elementary Education and Secondary Education, U.S. Department of Education;
Gene Wilhoit, Executive Director, Council of Chief State School Officers;
Dane Linn, Director of the Education Division, National Governors Association Center for Best Practices; and
Sandra Boyd, Vice President for Strategic Communications and Outreach, Achieve.
The three-day conference is designed to motivate ‘grasstop’ leaders from across the country and provide an in-depth look at the latest PTA Public Policy Agenda through a series of workshops, skill building trainings, panel discussions, and guest speakers.
